When can you truly, unabashedly call yourself a writer?

When you believe it. However, convincing anyone else will require you to earn your living from it. In most peoples eyes you remain an "aspiring writer" until you consistently earn money and lose the modifier.

When you finish a piece and you give it over to the public to read, be it Hub Pages or a publishing house, and someone says "That's good...or I truly enjoyed... or It made me cry...or laugh...or just feel good after I read it. " To me, that's a writer!

That's a tough one, and I think does vary...some people are writers by occupation, while others are writers by dint of their skills in manipulating the written word regardless of what they do for a living. Personally, I only started calling myself a writer when it became my sole occupation and everyone else was calling me that too...and it's even on my tax return, so it's official :P.

The answer is not being published and paid, you can write a brilliant book or article and it never sees the light of day. It's a revelation, an understanding of the hard work involved in converting the brilliant, abstract ideas running through your head into coherent prose, and then doing the work. That is what makes a writer.

When you fail to get any publishers...thats the time when you become a "TRUE" writer....coz' then you would have to write your own destiny with your mind,body & soul.....

Basically , for me, truth when you are recognized by a publisher my opinion. After writing for years, and published , I still didn't really feel the change until a publisher accepted my book for publishing. Once on the road my plans just to do a lot public relations.

I really have over the years learned that not really in for the money of the venture but the challenge.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
