When census takers ask questions I feel are too personal, and I don't answer them what are the penalties, if any?

Similar questions: census takers questions feel personal answer penalties.

Technically, the census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. "An Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. " What this means is that Congress can "direct" any question they want to be included in that census, and you kinda have to answer it.

Technically, if you don't and they feel like making you, they could hold you in "Contempt of Congress" for refusing. However, the (much) more likely is that the census taker will let it go if you answer most of them because he will be too tired to bother (I've done the mere initial canvassing, and that was wearing enough, besides the fun of verifying addresses. ) In other words, tho much can happen, I really think nothing will happen.
