When I am running Internet Explorer the computer revs up and the browser freezes?

When I am running Internet Explorer the computer revs up and the browser freezes. Sometimes it just freezes, and I have to wait for it to catch up. Other times I get an error message saying that Internet Explorer has had an error and has to shut down.

The computer itself NEVER freezes or shuts down it's just the browser. Asked by midlifecrisis64 46 months ago Similar questions: running Internet Explorer computer revs browser freezes Computers > Internet.

Possible virus, or a few other things to check. The two things I've seen that can cause symptoms like that are either virus/trojan issues, or as strange as it sounds, the cache on the browser being set to some insanely high value. My first thought would be more towards the virus side however.

The first step might be booting the computer in "Safe Mode with Networking" which often times will allow you to at least get on the internet to download the solution. You can bypass this step if you're already on able to get on the net with this computer or you have access to another computer nearby. To start in safe mode, reboot the computer and press F8 every few seconds as the computer boots up until you get the boot menu, then arrow down and select "Safe Mode with Networking".

From there, you should be able to get online and browse the web. The first program I'd look at getting is Spybot Destroyer from Safer Networking. The program can be downloaded here: safer-networking.org Allow that program to run it's course and see if it doesn't find the problem.

If nothing is discovered or you continue to have issues, you can also use Ad-Aware and Windows Defender which each have their own strengths in removing problems as well: Ad-Aware is from http://www.lavasoft.com Windows Defender from Microsoft can be found at http://www.windowsdefender.com On the remote chance it is a browser cache issue, you can find the settings for the browser cache from the Tools Menu of your browser, by selecting "Internet Options". Then press the "Settings" button under the section on "Browsing The normal setting is 50 MB to 250 MB. Finally, a few other things to keep in mind: - Make sure you have good antivirus, AVG at http://free.grisoft.com or AntiVir at http://www.freeav.com are both good and free.

- Make sure you have all your updates and security fixes from Microsoft. - Maybe look at FireFox as a more reliable alternative to Internet Explorer at http://www.mozilla.com. Hope that helps!.

Move to firefox first of all, I would like to recommend firefox to you. Although it is not without problems, it is surely better than IE. For a very long time I was an IE user and didn't want to switch to firefox.

But once I made the move, I didn't want to go back again. If you are using IE7 and are willing to stick to it, then you can try this: support.microsoft.com/kb/927177 which shows you how to uninstall it. Afterwards, you can download IE7 again and reinstall it from microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily... Also, you can get the following items: javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php spyware blaster keeps your browser(s) immune to spyware and virus and all that.

Jack this is a program that detects and removes webpage hijackers. In some cases, when a browser freezes, it is because some malware (virus, spyware, etc. ) is acting up. Also get avg free, which is a darn good antivirus free.grisoft.com And finally, check your hardware, just in case.

Although you believed it was IE's problem, it could be your memory module has a bad cell, and Ie just happened to use that unfortunate byte. Grab memtest86 to see if you memory modules need replacement http://www.memtest86.com/download.html Sources: my own experience .

IE is tied in to the OS - use a standalone browser The core of Internet Explorer is tied within the Operating System itself - which makes its health highly dependent on the general well-being of the system. For example if you installed a program which adds - for example - an extra option to your general right-click, it is entirely possible that the Windows registry entries where this happens could affect IE. I strongly recommend that you switch to a better and more standards compliant browser - you could go for Opera (opera.com) or Firefox 2.0 (mozilla.com/firefox/).

They are both more secure than IE anyway..

Switch to Firefox...IE is no good. Go to mozilla.org/download.html and download FireFox which is a lot better than Internet Explorer. Much faster and more reliable.

You may have to reinstall Flash/JAVA etc. If you want to fix your IE issue. Just install all the patches, run spybot search and destroy, clean up your computer. Disk Cleanup, Defrag your Hard drive.

If nothing works, reinstall XP. Format and reinstall..

1 You can try this utility, it has worked for me before. Otherwise, switch to Firefox; much better...windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
