I believe Pope Benedict is one of the most intelligent popes in history and will be pronounced as a doctor of the Church, we can gauge the greatest challenge of our times based on which pope is selected. Pope Benedict's expertise is about Europe so I believe there will be some focus to improve things there. Stronger ties between the Jews and Christians is desirable and is needed...considering on the path the secular world is heading to.
As a Catholic, there has been no change in course under Benedict from where the Church was going with JP2. Benedict helped engineer everything that JP@ did, being his lieutenant. While Benedict may not be as popular, his attitude as far as Jews has not changed and he has built upon what JP2 did.
In this, he is what is needed. There have been Rabbis come and occasionally speak during our Masses. This is only possible due to the clear and unchanged attitude of the Church which is guided by Benedict.
You may criticize him for many other things, but not this. As far as Muslims, he has also made efforts, he has won over many of the westernized moderates. The radicalized Muslims, I believe, are beyond help or reconciliation, unfortunately.
I have seen many non-Christians that admire the Pope. This is a sign that he is doing something right.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
