Gerd P has it pretty much correct. You get the treatment you need for conditions which occur in New Zealand or pre-existing conditions which are controlled on arrival but ''flare up'' while you are here. Basically we will treat you to relieve symptoms, but not to effect a cure.
Usually Hospital treatment is not covered for illness, but is for accidents You are, as a tourist, covered by New Zealand's Accident Compensation Scheme, which covers everybody, regardless of where they are from, for accidents in the country. It will cover your costs to a limited degree. If your friend had an accident in NZ she would not have been charged for hospital treatment.
If she became ill, she probably would and should have been, but they don't always pursue it for short stays. The cost of chasing it can be greater than the sum involved. However, many things are not covered, so you do need medical insurance.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
