2 They never will. The advertisers know that people leave the room during commericals, so they raise the volume. Since the advertisers pay the tv networks, we are stuck with the sound.

3 They are not any louder than the program you are watching. Commercials have no control over the volume setting on your television. What you are experiencing is a bit of an auditory illusion.

The peaks in sound wavelengths come much more frequently in commercials than they do in a typical TV show, so they seem like they are louder. (Like someone shouting at you all the time, as opposed to shouting occasionally and talking normally otherwise). There is no way to legislate this unless you want to start doing a wavelength check on commercial sound frequencies.

And it just so happens that most commercials tend towards these higher level sounds because they are trying to be upbeat in selling something. Its hard to sell a product if you don't sound enthusiastic about it, if you are whispering, or talking in a quiet voice. Except for maybe the Geico Gecko...

4 I find it extremely annoying, but I am thinking they do it on purpose to get your attention, so I doubt it will end.

5 I've heard that claim, by the Chairwoman of the FCC no less, NanoNano. I do care if they are measurably he same, the effect is they are louder, more intrusive, and just plain annoying. But I got rid of TV in my house years ago.

I get my news on line or from NPR, and it there's a television program (Desperate Housewives, Battle Star Galactica) I wish to see I rent the dvds; no commercials. Why in the world would I want to pay for commercials and 300 programs I don't watch? TV has to get a lot smarter a lot faster or the internet will kill it, and the sound level issue will be moot.

"Do you think there is a bias against men in TV commercials? " "Are TV commercials too stupid?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
