George Washington Carver, nicknamed "Black Leonardo", by TIME magazine, as a reference to the polymath, Leonardo DA Vinci, attended several colleges and Universities. S formal education was limited by societal, political and policy prejudices. In the late 1870s, it was almost impossible for a Black man or woman to gain acceptance into any US college or University, thus, George Washington Carver endured and overcame many, many obstacles to attend college He started his college education at in Kansas; now known as ghland Community College He then studied studying art and piano at Simpson College, in Indianola, Iowa s art Professor recognized his talent for painting flowers and plants and convinced him to study botany at Iowa State Agricultural College in Ames, Iowa He eventually obtained his Masters Degree from Iowa State.
