Asbestos is an indoor pollutant, and one that has been associated with high incidences of lung cancer and other cancers. Asbestos is found in insulation such as that used to wrap water pipes, in certain kinds of flooring, textured paints, old roofing materials, and other sources.

Asbestos is not a risk as long as it is contained in a properly sealed wrapping. However, those protective wrappings can crack with age, causing asbestos fibers to leak into the air.
