Which bony foramen does the internal carotid artery run through?

The carotid canal. When viewed from a superior angle, the internal carotid may appear to be transmitted through the foramen lacerum; however, it is not. The foramen lucerum is actually covered by connective tissue and transmits NO vessels or nerves.

Though there are many hypotheses as to the purpose of the foramen lucerum, there is no definitive answer.
