Who is the considered the top selling artist in Country Music? Has he or she won any awards?

The traditional way to measure sales is through Billboard and RIAA Industry statistics. Admittedly, in an age where downloads of electronic formats are challenging album sales, there may be changes blowing in the wind as SoundScan joins Billboard and RIAA in verifying recording sales by adding a digital resource. Cuntry music, however, has changed less than other genres in this respect, as well as in radio popularity.

Countrt music fans still love their CDs and Radio, and for now, Billboard and RIAA statistics are the best we can do. According to the latest figures from the Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) Garth Brooks is third on the list of ghest Selling Artists in history, right after The Beatles and Elvis Presslety. Garth has sold 128 million albums compared to 129 for Elvis.

The second highest Country artist is George Strait with 68 million.

Considering Garth was retired for nine of those years, that may not be all that meaning ful, especially when comparing total carrer sales of 128 million (Brooks) to 68 million (Strait).
