Faye Kellerman I have never picked up a book of hers and not been able to devour it. Usually with the popular pulp-fiction authors there are some stinkers in the line up, but if Faye Kellerman is going to give us a stinker she's still working on it. My favorites are her Peter Decker-Rina Lazarus detective series.

The mysteries are always intriguing and the solutions never obvious....figuring out who the bad guys are is sometimes hard, which makes these detective stories stand out. The unique thing about this series, though, is its vibrant underpainting of life in a modern Orthodox Jewish household. I've learned a lot about this interesting religious sub-culture from reading her books.Ms.

Kellerman manages to infuse her lessons with such respect and humor that it makes a very particularizing and rigorous lifestyle seem perfectly normal. That's quite a gift. Nice to have some "never disappoint" writers around when you're in the mood for a quick and enjoyable read.

The Pride of Plains, Texas..... Robert E. Howard, creator of Solomon Kane (a wandering Puritan killer/do gooder of the 18th century, Francis Xavier Gordon, Amercan adventurer in the wastelands of the Middle East, and a host of other characters, from 20th century boxers and cowboys to his most famous creation, Conan The Barbarian. Howard also wrote "historical fiction" involving the crusades, war with the Mongol hordes, and Viking and Irish reiver tales (Tigers of The Sea, awesome) He committed suicide in, I believe, 1936 (no googling here), but many of his stories have enjoyed a renassiance with the publication of several books recently.

I grew up in the 70’s reading his stuff, and I still enjoy re-reading it today. Sources: Love of Reading, personal memories. Philip K Dick Most of my pulp fiction reading as been in science fiction and mysteries. My favorites in these genres have been Philip K Dick, Jack Vance, Philip Jose Farmer, Roger Zelazny, Frank Herbert, Chester Jim Thomson and Rex Stout. I read all of these in cheap paperbacks when I was a kid on the 50’s.

But the best, la creme de la creme, is Philip K Dick. Reading ’Eye in the Sky’ in 1957 when I was 12 years old, I first encountered the idea that reality might be subjective. Literally blew my mind.So I kept reading more and more P K Dick, hoping to get my mind blown some more, and sometimes it was.

Fortunately, Dick could churn them out, the true sign of a pulp-meister. I am looking for good non fiction books for a second grader.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
