Why did my credit card website make me give them my social security and credit card numbers in order to remember my name?

1 Been there, done that. Officially, I think that it's for security purposes. Unofficially and personally, it makes me crazier than I already am.

A lot of web sites use the last four digits as a kind of brain-damaged password. It's mind-bogglingly stupid, but they do it all the time because it's vastly easier than building a system which isn't playing fast and loose with your money.(I am absolutely incensed at the laziness of these companies.)Asking for your whole SSN... that's rather unusual. They may be pretending that every identity thief on the planet doesn't already know your SSN and that all 9 digits are somehow more secure.

3 They asked for the whole SSN. I've entered the wrong username at my other credit card's website before, and it gave me another chance, but said that too many attempts would freeze the account. I wish they had given me just one chance after I got it wrong. It said I would need to create a new password if I forgot it, and then, even though I hadn't forgotten it, made me create a new password anyway.

I only clicked on the link to view my account because it said to pay my bill online, but I didn't think I had actually used it since the last time I paid. I was right, the amount was $0. I always pay online.

Why did they send an e-mail saying I should pay online when the bill wasn't even due because I hadn't spent anything? .

4 Bad programming, probably. I'm a programmer myself, so I can tell you from personal experience that we're a lazy, stupid lot. I wish I were joking about that.

I knew my username and password, I just forgot which account I was using! After giving my SS# and credit card #, I suddenly thought, "What if this information is going to people other than the credit card people". So I quit the process.

Then I went to the correct website instead of using the link in the e-mail, and it wouldn't let me log in and brought me to the same page, so I guess it was the right website. I had to enter my information all over again and get an activation code, and it said I would need to create a new password. I remembered my password!

It was all just a waste of time. They should have given me a chance to enter the correct information, at least one chance. I wish I hadn't clicked on the link and wasted my time.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
