Why do Fundamentalist Christians try to redefine the intentions of the founding fathers to fit their extreme?

Even before modern medicine the founders were wise enough to know that a fetus was simply a brainless clump of cells. Many of the founders knew the Bible and all religion was nonsense even before modern science proved it was. They were brilliant.
