Why do people consult psychics when they know that they are fake?

People may know intellectually that psychics are fake, but that doesn't change the fact that people WANT psychics to be real. That want, that desire for the world to be differant than it is, can often override our sense of reason.

It's the same manner by which we might read an email from a Nigerian prince offering us tons of cash. Our reason tells us that it's a scam. But, we want so very badly for it to be genuine (what with money solving our problems) that we might consider it.

I don't NECESSARILY believe that all psychics are fakes. To my way of thinking (due to our relative lack of interest in history (by this I mean evolution, as a part of human history) we have miscategorized their particular skill set. You see, I think that indiviuals who go into that field are naturally highly intuitive and sensitive people (most likely of the NF Myers-Briggs character type -- 'intuitive feelers').

You see, I think the honest 'psychics' have and do work hard to develop their skills and serve their clients. It's like religion in a way, some people 'believe' in it and some people do not. Some people attribute its 'effects' to religion or "God" or "angels" or some other spiritual phenomena; others attribute its effects to 'dumb luck,' happenstance, or the like.

If you're interested I wrote about this question in a hub once...

Not all psychics are fakes. Some are prophets of God, but they won't be asking for money.

I've read some of Edgar Cayce--a devout Christian--who gave psychic readings. He never accepted money for the readings, from what I understand. Donations were given to his foundation.

But he apparently helped hundreds, if not thousands, of people on whom the doctors had given up. That in itself is pretty impressive.

He believed in reincarnation and read the Bible daily. Interesting.

First of all I'd like to state that not all psychics are fake. A lot of them are these days and that is why when you seek the help of one now you just have to be careful about how you do so.

A lot of people do this because they either what to communicate with a loved one who has passed on, they are a needing an answer to a question that is troubling them a great deal, or they are desperate about their love lives. There are many reasons.

One must go about being careful when it comes to psychics now but that doesn't mean that they are fake. There are a few of them out there that are real.

Even though they know psychics are a fake, human kind has the necessity to believe on something spiritual.

I don't think people go to a psychic knowing 100% that they are fake. I imagine that they hope they are real and at least some part of them feels that this is a possibility.

People with psychological disorder always believe that psychics are not fake. These people really need psychics. In fact, psychology is a derived from science, and science can never be fake!

(3) people are desperate for help and feel a psychic can help.

If all psychics were fake, the trade would have died long time ago, believe do believe in psychics predictions, whether it is true or not is a subject for another day.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
