Why do people draw into the most common myth that people who are depressed can just "Snap out of it"?

Most people still have the misconception that depression is a choice, but we're learning that it's often a biochemical imbalance. Telling a depressed person to "snap out of it" is like telling a person with diabetes or other medical condition to just "get over it. " Mental illness has been stigmatized throughout the ages but fortunately that stigma is being lifted as people become more enlightened to the true causes of depression and other mental disorders. My own dad has dealt with schizophrenia and depression and in his case it is only the medications that keep him well-balanced.

All the psychotherapy in the world won't make a difference when the cause is an imbalance in the brain chemistry. One problem is that many drugs used to treat depression and other mental disorders are strong drugs and have some unpleasant, even serious, side effects. Some patients will second-guess their doctors and not use their medications correctly, if at all.

These patients need a strong support system, family, friends, coworkers, to help keep them on the right path. My dad has been one of the fortunate ones and has been able to live a fairly normal life when his meds are well regulated. He always was a great dad to us kids, and still is.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
