Why does an UpdatePanel triggering cause all other content to disappear?

You should add again the controls to the page inside the update panel, otherwise master page's load function clears the controls and thus the actions of those controls do not work anymore.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
