Why does it have to be about party affiliation? Shouldn't our leaders join to help America's issues?

You have to understand that the tradition of party affiliation grew out of the on-going fight over "states rights". In actuality, we continue the battle of "states rights" today (example, look at the debacle in Arizona). The healthcare initiativer was really rooted in "states rights".

The issues change but the lead right back to states rights. The founding fathers created the republic with an orientation of binding together a group of strong states into one union. A central government was created but expected to remain small, uninvoled largely, and be a servant to the states.

The Republican side supported this approach. The Democratic side leaned the other way and wanted power, money, decision-making, etc. In the hands of the Federal Government. The Civil War ultimately was a "states rights" issue revolving around the argument regarding a states ability to secede from the union.

The issue that raised that question was slavery. Thus we align our thinking with the party that supports what we believe. I am sure if something better comes along, it will survive on its own merit but until the issue of "states rights" is resolved once and for all, the two-party system will be the dominant approach.

A most excellent point. It seems everything is agenda and party driven. I feel that we have to dig real hard to find the true reasons why some politicians are for a particular bill and what hidden goodies they get for throwing their support at a bill.

We all wonder why a Congressman would spend millions of dollars to get a job that pays a couple hundred thou. There are reasons, money in it for them reasons, that we know little about.

They all call by bi-partisanship but rarely follow thru, and you are right, it is both parties. They are putting their interests above the welfare of the people. No doubt about it.

And people are paying attention. This Congress has a very low approval rating, people citing unequivocally that Congress is out of touch with mainstream Americans.

Getting elected is the goal so they can get their turn at the troth. I don't think any of them care one lick about the general public.

While it would be nice if there were less partisan bickering and back biting, the essential problem with a want of unity is night and day. How do you propose one group that wants to layoff half the government workers join with the other group who wants to hire millions more government workers? These are mutually exclusive modes.

If they cannot agree on how to help, they essentially stall a solution, the longer they stall, the more salary they earn. We have had a homeless problem for centuries in every country on the planet. While there are degrees of the problem, there hasn’t existed a ruling party to fix the problem.

You’re asking for something only God himself can fix.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
