My guess would be your not doing the right warm up stretches before running ,or your not using the right running shoes,or they are worn out and should be replaced.(the shoes not your ankle) .

You should try to stretch and warm up your ankle before you start running. It can be the way you run maybe you run in an angle that irritates your ankle and you don't even know it. It can also be your sneakers/Shoes try to get light cushioned sneakers that are easy on the joints to run with.Html.

In addition to what Squeeky said, you may also have running shoes that are not right for you. Most running shoes are not flat, but have heels that are built up on either one side or another. If your ankly is not hitting straight down, but is being pushed at an angle, it could cause a running injury and swell up.

You should check your shoes too. Some higher end running shoe stores can check your stride.
