Why is everyone making a big deal about benghazi?

It's hard for anybody to answer this question without some bias. But basically it's like this. On numerous occasions, Ambassador Stephens ask for more security after the British embassy was bombed.

They were denied. Then, after receiving what they believed to be credible intelligence of a terrorist attack on the anniversary of 9/11, they requested more security and were again denied. The problem of Benghazi begins with the attack on the embassy by terrorists, and all calls for armed support for defense went unheeded.

Several CIA operatives in the area requested permission to go in and provide aid. They were told to stand down. They went anyways (btw, three of them were former Navy seals).

During the attack, the reports from the ambassador reached AfriCom and a Battle Group Commander in the Persian Gulf. AfriCom and the BGC requested to go in, but were also told to stand down while a group from Spain was to be flown in 6 hours later. Meanwhile, the ex-Seals were in contact with the air group from the Carrier Battle Group and knowing the F-18's were above painted the attackers with their laser targeting system.

The Battle Group Commander requested permission to cross borders and go into Libya, but the White House ordered them to standdown. Eventually, the former Seals, the ambassador and several others died. Back stateside, the President, Vice President, Secy.

Of State all stated that this attack was the result of some corny u-tube video, knowing full well that wasn't the truth. In addition, the AfriCom and Battle Group Commanders were summarily relieved of their commands, and haven't been heard from since. Aside from all the various incongruent news briefings from the WH press corps, there have been several supposedly unrelated scandals suddenly erupt from the CIA, and other major commands in the mid East and N.

Africa, involving people associated with whatever happened in Benghazi. The reason Obama/Clinton are being blamed, is they knowingly stated that the attacks were a result of a video, then say they said it was a terrorist attack. They continue to blame this on the video, but still state they are investigating the attack.

They waited more that six weeks before they ever sent any body to investigate Benghazi, and then we find out there were already people there to do that, but had been sent away and all their reports have disappeared.. Now that's all the real recollection I have of the facts, but if you google around for a bit, I know you will find much more.

6 weeks before an election the Republican candidate was likely to lose, militants attacked the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya - a war torn country with an unstable governement. Even though there were six fatal attacks on American embassies during the previous administration which resulted in the deaths of 51 people, Republican's hoping to take advantage of the Benghazi attacks to get their boy elected decided it was "the worst attack on American's since 9/11" and tried to exploit it shamelessly for poltical purposes. After losing the election anyway, bitter Republican's convinced themselves that President Obama (who many of these folks truly believe is a Kenyan-born closet Muslim who hates America) did something illegal and figured they could get him impeached for "stealing" the election (along with Obama's ACORN buddies) from them.

Thus ensued a 4-month long witch-hunt by the conservative media and members of Congress which has spawned at least 14 nutty conspiracy theories.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
