Why is President Obama so much criticized and yet he won in a landslide?

I think part of the answer is that he is middle of the road on many issues (although those who ardently support or oppose a given issue would disagree vehemently! ). When you go down the middle, you don't really please anyone.

It seems if you're very liberal, you please that crowd. If you're ultra-conservative you please that crowd. If you aren't too extreme either way, no one is pleased. No one really believes in compromise.

In giving up one thing to get another thing. It's our way or no way! The population seems very polarized and very ready to see an "us vs. them" in every situation.

Hatred and extreme emotions seem to be rampant. It's not uncommon to be told you should leave the country if you don't agree with a particular point of view.(I truly hope these individuals don't conduct their personal relationships this way!) This whole behavior to me is reminiscent of some of the extremism we supposedly oppose.

As one commenter suggested, it would not be surprising to see someone try to take Obama's life. Sorry, that's not a political group I care to belong to...and I don't appreciate their dramatization which stirs this. There are real issues, and real concerns, but this dramatization is clearly irresponsible in my URL1 makes me doubt the oppositions ability to lead or to even make rational decisions.

Some see Obama as a socialist yet the socialist party totally rejects him. Very telling. There aren't many moderates who are vocal.

I am one of them I believe. I don't feel he has caused this, it's been there and growing.

Personally, although I certainly don't agree with everything the current administration has done...I'm relatively pleased.

Some people are happy with what he is doing and some want his head on a Platter.

The fact of the matter is Obama is human. No matter who you are, how good you are, how much hard you work, there will always be people who will like you and people who will just take a dislike to you for no good reason. It's life.

If God came down from Heaven to rule America, there would still be people who would like m and some that would criticize .

Given time, I hope he is able to make a significant, positive difference to America. :).

As an outsider looking in, I have to question the assumption of a 'landslide'. Obama won in a two-horse race between a lacklustre man of integrity and a charismatic black man. And I am sorry to say that that last point probably did more for him than any other factor.

The Democrats had a choice to make to beat McCain: Play the gender card with Clinton or the race card with Obama. In the end, they cynically decided that the race card would trump the gender agenda and they were vindicated at the ballot box.

I absolutely detest and despise prejudice in whatever form it appears, be it on grounds of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or anything else, but fairness cuts both ways, which means I do not approve of favouring any candidate simply because he is black or she is a woman, any more than if they were rejected for those reasons, and I am afraid that although Obama seems a fairly nice guy (for a politician) he owes his office more to his melanin than his political acuity. He promised almost everyone in sight almost everything they desired and that is very dangerous.

Throughout the early 20th Century, Britain held the Palestinian Mandate and promised both the Arabs and the Jews the same land, and look where that got us.

Adolf tler was a charismatic leader who won a democratic mandate at open elections, so democracy has its limitations - and the United States is not even a democracy. Check it out - you're a 'Republic', which is one reason you have the Elctoral College system.

I fear for Obama and sincerely believe that an attempt will be made on the life of this basically decent and well-meaning man within the next 3 to 10 months.

I suppose he lost a good amount of support because people felt he did not take homeland security seriously.

(when the bomber on the flight to detroit exploded a homemade firecracker/some sort of bomb on the flight).

Once again, it's not that this is directly Obama's fault, but he is the one taking the criticism and blame because he is president!

Makes me glad that I did not vote. I never do. This way I can't complain about him, I would have no right to complain.

There is no point in blaming or hating the gov't. For Obama, Im sure he tries to do many good things for us and himself. Just like anyone else would do.

I can't hate him for that.

No one could , for long, achieve the levels of expectations that have been set for Obama. The fact that those levels of high expectations were set by the President and his team, during the campaign, themselves absolutely assured the drop in popularity and support. When you campaign for Change most people will shout "yeah!" and agree especially after eight years of an unpopular administration.

The problems begin when you, eventually, have to detail the "Change" you are promoting. Obama did not have to provide details during the campaign but now as President he has to and as the saying goes "the devil is in the details". Many voters were looking for change but the , fundamental, changes he is proposing are becoming more and more uncomfortable for the voters.

Unless he can explain and sell his programs effectively and honestly he will continue to lose support. Once you disappoint someone who has held you, in their mind, on a pedestal the fall is usually long and hard. You will probably never get that supporter back.

Clearly you are misinformed. Obama won 53% of the popular vote. That is hardly a landslide.

Obama has kept none of his promises. Obama has appointed the same Wall Street people that Bush Appointed. Obama is continuing the War Agenda.

In short Obama is a talker of no substance.

But the reality is Obama could not FIX the Country if he wanted to. The issues are neither Democratic nor Repulican.

Anyone that believes Politicians run the country is mistaken. The County is run my Bankers. Complete control of a country goes to the people who control the money supply of the country.

Obama likes ot talk big about Financial Reform, but there is nothing he can do.

Just last week he "asked" Bankers to please loan more, he "asked" Bankers to be more responsible and not fight his reform agenda.

But the reality is the Bankers will do whatever they want.

So WAKE UP America... you can hate Obama or you can Love Obama and it makes no difference.

The reality is the Government is controlled by those who control the money supply.

Picking political sides is nothing more than a distraction of the issues.

First of all, as dabeaner has already pointed out, the popular vote did not give Obama a landslide victory. Secondly, the period during and shortly after the election is almost always the period where the president's approval rating is the highest. Obama's charisma and promises of "change" undoubtedly aided in his record approval rating early on.

This is why the first 100 days in office are so crucial for pushing through whatever proposals the president may have. That is when he has the most popular support. However, once he has been in office too long and nothing has happened, his approval rating inevitably falls.

Obama is not unique in this aspect, however, since he made such grand promises during his campaign, when he fails to deliver them, the fall is twice as hard. And he is doomed to fail because government always fails, and more government can only exacerbate the nation's problems.

Because he is a puppet just like every other elect we have had for a long time.

1. The parties research what the majority of people want to hear durring the election.

3. They stack the House with thier party in hope of winning the next election.

It is more about control of the party than upholding promises.

52% is not a landslide. Unfortunately, Mccain wasn't much of an opponent.

Because Republicans have to make a case for themselves to save face. If they allow him to have his way, and he's successful - they won't stand a chance in 2012. It's all politics.

Allan McGregor: If you so detest and despise prejudice, then why did you open your statement with just that. The Democrats had to play the gender or race card? What is that?

How about they just voted in the best candidate...regardless of "race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or anything else". You making it solely about race and gender makes YOU the one playing the prejudice card.

While the bulk of your message is interesting, it is making the assumption that all Black people voted for him solely because he's Black, and he is there with a Black agenda. That's playing a hand full of race cards. I despise the notion.

I don't think many more people are probably critizing him now than in his campaign. The same people who were against him then were very vocal people and still are. The poles show a drop in his ratings, mostly due to how long he has been in office (the honeymoon is over) and his health care reform.

I still don't think these people truly dislike him as a person or president, and are not the ones shooting out most of the hype.

Simply put...Obama has turned out to be a continuation of past administrations. He lied to 'we the people' about so many things, transparency and lobbyist to name two, and worse is the fact that he thinks we don't realize it. Basically, Obama (and most politicians) think we're stupid and that they can do what they like without us knowing.Obviously...I've been terribly disappointed in Obama and his administration.

Obama did not win the popular vote by Landsile! He won the electorial states by community organizing, and thus carried the electoriate.

If you remember in his Chicago acceptance speach one line said.

And to all of you who did not agree with me, I will be your President to!

He has not been clear on much and he needs to remember something! "You can not be A Chief if all your Indians leave camp!

America did the right thing, and he was the best candidate, but he has to reciprocate, and not just to special radical interests, but all of America.

Look who he was against. That is all I have to say.

Obama won by a landslide because so many Americans wanted the first Black president. He is criticized so much people people are now starting to realize how much they ignored about who Obama really is. S current approval rating is the lowest of any president at this point in their term .. .

Despite the hordes of liberal journalists trying to hide his mistakes and talk him up. Electing Obama was one of the biggest mistakes our country has made in recent years.

He is criticized because of his bad and unproductive policies. The public was disillusioned with Bush and the Republicans and were willing to listen to a demagogue. He was smooth, glib and some thought he was another JFK, although JFK would not agree with any of his policies.

First of all, Obama isn't criticized more than any other US President. Even the deified Ronald "Raygun" Reagan had a pretty good number of detractors. Obama's opponents know how to shout really loud, there aren't necessarily any more of them.In fact, Obama still has a 50% approval rating as of November 3, 2009 which is more than we could ever say for Bush except immediately after 9/11.

Besides, if Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and their gaggle of cronies are to be believed the media is strongly biased towards Obama.

Second, the only reason you could say that Obama won in a landslide is because it was a landslide relative to the 2000 and 2004 elections in which Bush didn't even win the popular vote.

By our very nature, we are apt to ask questions of those with whom our most trusted thoughts and ideas are placed. I would be more worried, subsequent to events leading up to his election, were we any less focused on his success.

He didn't win in a landslide. The popular vote was fairly close, but any "landslide" was due to the way the electoral college works. Not that I give a cr*p as to which tool wins.No one, Obama, McCain, Clinton, Bush 1 or 2, whomever, gets to even run unless they have sold out to the ruling elite.

Obama is just a spokes-hole with his pet projects, just like McCain would have been a spokes-hole with his pet projects. But either/both are/would work diligently to advance the New World Order agenda.

I supported Mccain, but he was not a good campaigner and he didn't exploit the enemy's weaknesses when they were uncovered.

He, like Kerry (Bush's fellow Bonesman) in the election before, was a stooge; just there to make sure Obama won. Obama is the Bilderberg or Trilateral Commission patsy, set up by the powers that be for the American sheeple to rush out, like the Gadarene Swine, and vote for.

Next time heed this and then stay at home on election day.

“Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything”.

Translated to to our society we can interpret it thus.

Those who vote decide nothing. Those who preselect the monkeys you lemmings vote for, decide everything.

Wake up Britain and America before it's too late.

He lied his way into the White House and snowed a majority of the people! Plus he has yet to prove he is narural born by way of long form birth certificate and other documents! Barry Soetoro is his name after adoption and there is no record of a legal name change!

Barry is destroying America as the founding fathers had designed it with the constitution!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
