That it is as an old city that always has a lot going on is why Rio de Janeiro is the most famous city in Brazil. It is an area of early settlement in terms of native and immigrant populations. The views from Corcovado and Sugarloaf Mountain are magnificent.

There are beautiful places to visit, such as the forest of Tijuca. Just about every culture can be evidenced and just about every language can be heard in Rio. The entire city seems full of creative energy, as symbolized in Rio's attractive mosaic design sidewalks. There is such a commitment to enjoying life: When I first arrived, everyone was samba-ing in the streets even though there had been a completely unexpected soccer defeat against Argentina.

The people are friendly and really appreciate it when you're a Brazilian Portuguese/continental Portuguese speaker such as I am. The music is great, and so is the food!

I agree with the eafblog's answer and I want to take your attention to another issue. We, the people from other side of the world generally hear about Brazil for some other news and maybe crimes etc eventually but mostly we hear about Rio Carnival.. and this carnival is enough for people to remember Rio is the most important city because it is a fun event.. not a nwes report not about economics nor crime etc.. it is better to remember the city with the Fun thing. And Rio has a huge fun thing every year..

Because Rio is the major cultural center in Brazil. All the novels and brazilian films are produced in Rio. The main broadcast channels in Brazil have their bases in Rio.

Althought Rio is the second GDP in Brazil behind Sao Paulo Rio remain as the city that attract the world eyes. Rio is a fantastic city with a vibrant atmosphere and rare beauty. I could say the importance the Rio to Brazil is the same importance that New York has to americans.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
