Thomas Jefferson, one of the most prominent of the founding fathers, is credited as the author of the Declaration of Independence. He became the third president of the United States. S administration bought from France the land on which Mt.

Rushmore stands. He sent the Lewis and Clarke expedition to explore that territory when it was still unsettled. He, more than the others, perhaps, belongs on that mountain.
