Why was PETA dressed like the KKK at the Westminster dog show?

Many dog breeds and in fact dog standards are a product of Victorian era views about race. "Pure blood" becomes a pretty awful term when applied to human for example. Many dog breeds do not however have any historical relevance to racism and are purely utilitarian selection, just like horse and chicken for that matter.

There is no question that dog shows have risen from Victorian society and even to this day terriers who are form the UK dominate WDS. But that was then and this is now, and the effect of 19th century societal racism really has no bearing that I can figure - that's not to say dog breed standards are without fault. Dog breed standards in effect make "mixes" a lesser class of dog, leading to a reluctance to adopt rescues in favor a dog with papers....this fact is completely heart breaking to me.

Breeding programs often go wrong with Dr. Moreau types madly trying to attain perfection with horrible unintended results. But this type of person would exist as something else horrible if they didn't breed frakendogs. PETA - Oh the irony of these guys advocating at a dog show.It wasn't too long ago that PETA was calling for the destruction of pit bulls because they were not worth saving.

Talk about racism transposed onto dogs, blows my mind. These folks are the GOP of animal advocacy and should be seen as such. Sometimes I imagine their boardroom meeting as they discuss how Greenpeace is kicking there ass with the whaling patrols.

According to USA today: "Their goal, according to a post on the PETA website, was to draw a parallel between the KKK and the American Kennel Club. "Obviously it's an uncomfortable comparison," PETA spokesman Michael McGraw told the Associated Press. But the AKC is trying to create a "master race" when it comes to pure-bred dogs, he added."It's a very apt comparison.

"" So, basically they wanted to draw attention to themselves and compare the AKC to the KKK because they think dog breeding is like doggie racism. Do I think it's a fair comparison? No. The KKK have been terrorizing, oppressing and murdering human beings since 1866.

The American Kennel Club only oppresses dogs. And there is no way of knowing if the dogs even care. Murdering Humans does not equal breeding dogs.

PETA, which has demonstrated against the show for years, decided to emphasize the racist aspect of dog breeding this year by dressing as known racists (KKK). All domestic animal shows are blatantly racist, with regard to the animals. On the other hand, it's considered perfectly OK by just about everyone except PETA to be racist when it comes to domestic animals.

Still, if PETA wants to draw attention to this it's certainly a legitimate point. I notice in the news report that a dog show representative glibly flat out lied to the public saying that all they care about is happy and healthy pets. The dogs are judged upon strict rules for superficial appearance such as fur color.

A brown dalmatian would be as welcome as a brown person at a KKK meeting. I think the dog show's reaction strengthens PETA's point. Still, this is one issue I don't think I'll get too worked up over.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
