Why would cause me to lose my internet connection from my wired connection, while the wireless connections remain active?

Why would cause me to lose my internet connection from my wired connection, while the wireless connections remain active The wired connection works fine for awhile, and then drops. The wireless connections do not lose the internet connection at all. I have tried replacing the cable between the computer and router, but this has not helped.

I have to unplug my modem and router to get the connection back. Asked by gooner 11 months ago Similar questions: lose internet connection wired wireless connections remain active Computers > Software Development.

Conceivably (although this is a long shot) some other device on the network has been assigned the same IP address as your computer. As long as that session is active, your router isn't talking to you because it is talking to the other computer. Check the router - make sure that (a) DHCP is on and (b) DHCP is set to hand out addresses from a pretty large range of IP numbers.

Thank you for the quick response. What is considered a large range of IP numbers? Looks like I have a range of 100-149.

100 to 149 ought to be enough, unless your house has 50 devices. Any chance that your neighbors are piggybacking on your wireless signal without your knowledge? Is your wireless security turned on?

Is DHCP turned on? You could do one thing - rather extreme - but it would prove the case. In most routers, there is the ability to restrict sessions by MAC address.

Find out the MAC address of your wired computer. Enter it into your router. That should only allow your wired computer to connect.(and any other MAC addresses you allow).

Doing this would lock out anyone who you don't approve of. All of this assumes that my original diagnosis is correct. I could be totally wrong..

Again, thanks for your quick response. The network is secure and DHCP is enabled. I can't try to restrict the MAC address now because my wife is using the wireless connection for work, but it doesn't sound like that is the problem.

OK, I have nothing else to suggest. I'm out of ideas. Well, maybe one thing.

Move the ethernet cable from whatever port it is on on the back of the router to another port. Reboot router and computer. That would tell you it's a flaky port on the router.

Again, long shot. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that. Gooner 11 months ago .

What do I need to do/buy to turn my AlphaSmart Dana into something that will surf the internet using wireless connection.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
