Will we ever have the ability to extend our questions?

One of my favorite quotes is one from Nils Bohr, who reportedly quipped that it's very difficult to make predictions, especially about the future. Having said that, I expect that this is not likely to be changed anytime soon. My reasoning is as follows.1.

There is not an overwhelming clamor of members asking for this change. 2. Many members are happy to get their tips within 3 days, who would be disappointed if this was extended to e.g.6 days like on ConundrumLand.3. You can already post comments to answers you feel are less than sufficient, guiding the answerer as to what you feel is missing.4.

You can select NBA and repost the question if you feel strongly there are no good answers in the first 3 days.5. You can leave the question up and let the community decide if NBA is the correct choice. The bottom line is that if Mahalo asked me what they should do, I'd say they should leave this aspect as it currently is.

If they were convinced such a change is the right thing for them to do, I'd say they should only allow it if the asker doubles the tip, with a minimum of adding M$1. Thus, a default tip question would become one worth M$1, one previously worth M$0.50 would become M$1.50, and one worth M$10 would become M$20. This would make it worthwhile for the answerers to wait another 3 days.

While a reminder that it's “Time to select a Best Answer” is received after three days, the situation at present is that a Mahalo question remains open / answerable for a full four days, so the knowledge that you have a period of 96 hours to receive responses to your questions might be of some small comfort. By waiting until this four-day “deadline” is close, you do of course run the risk of “forgetting” to select a Best Answer, but I guess a user could always set themselves a personal alarm / reminder (cellphone etc. :) if they wanted to, to be sure of choosing a BA before the question entered into voting. For reasons alluded to by others, I think it is probably unlikely that Mahalo will extend it beyond the four days .

. . For me personally I think it's just about enough as it is.

I guess Mahalo has to try and find a situation / balance that is agreeable to both the asker and any user / users who might have contributed an answer. As an asker myself, I am always keen to wrap things up as soon as I receive my “reminder e-mail” .. . I guess we might all be well advised to wait 12-18 hours beyond this point, just to give the question every chance of getting the best possible response.

The worst that might happen is that it will enter voting, but you will of course have the chance to place a vote once the question is in the undecided queue, and the vast majority of the time the best answer will emerge anyway.

Extending the questions would seem frustrating for people who have answered. Three or four days might not seem like a lot, but realistically most questions have gotten all of the answers that they are going to get after one or two. Once the question has disappeared from the answers page, it is effectively finished - so unless it is featured or popular it probably won't see anymore action.

I think it is better to keep things moving as quickly as possible. BUT - people should still be able to answer them after the question is closed and once the tip has been given. If the answer is of value, the asker might consider tipping the answerer.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
