If the low beams go out, then the switch and relay are at least half-working. About the only thing left is the wire and connections from the relay to the high beams.

Allow me to clarify: the Low Beams work. When I flip the switch to HB, then the HB lights go out. What is the possibility of a relay/sensor that identifies if a high beam is out it shuts down both?

Could it be that one HB is out therefore both are turned off? It is the same wiring from the relay/switch to both HB and LB so a wiring issue should have affected both beams. This one is a real puzzle to me.

I meant to say, if the low beams work on the low setting, and they go out on the high setting, then the switch is working, and the relay is working. Which we knew already because you've replaced them. Well I guess we know the wire from the switch to the relay is working too.

If the high beams fail to come on, then either there's a separate high-beam fuse, or the wire from the relay socket to the high beam bulbs is not working. Most likely cause is that the relay socket pin is not crimped properly to the wire. Try pulling on the high-beam wire at the back of the relay socket-- if it's poorly crimped you will be able to pull the wire right off.

Well, believe or not, after 6 years of use, both high beams can burn out at the same time. After checking everything else, including making sure there was voltage at the headlamp assembly, I broke down and bought bulbs as the last resort. Sure enough, the bulbs were burned out.

I could not believe they would burn out at the same time, but they did. So rack that one up to experience, always check the fuse and bulbs first. Soilsguy 12 months ago .
