I would smile. I think forced laughter always sounds forced, but what's the point of making your displeasure known? You're going to tell your boss "that meaningless little joke wasn't funny"?
What's the point? You just negatively impact their opinion of you, and gain nothing. It's socially polite to laugh a little at people's jokes, so why not do that for your boss?
He or she is probably just trying to lighten the mood and bond with their staff a little. Seriously, you've got to pick your battles, and that it isn't one to pick. If I found their joke offensive, I might raise my eyebrows or look confused, but I wouldn't call my boss out on it in front of others.
If I had a concern, I would address it later with my boss and/or human resources.
I have a bad habit of not thinking before I speak and in general people know me for my blunt nature.. I can see myself not only laughing but mocking the joke. It's beyond me why people like me.. I get equated to Becker or Gregory House a lot lol.
I would smile whatever the joke is, unless it's very offensive, then in that case I will smile tightly and try to change the topic. Displaying displeasure is fine as long as you don't value your job and position anymore. Like quesera said, this is really not the battle you want to pick.
I would make my displeasure known if the offensive jokes continue in daily basis and even mocking other employers (like extremley offensive racists or sexist jokes), by talking to the boss or to the HR, but again only in extreme cases, and only if you are ready to quit or lose your position if the boss is offended.
No, I don't laugh with my coworkers. I don't like being fake, as a rule; if a joke isn't funny, I'm not going to laugh. I also get the impression from your question that the joke was offensive; in that case, I'm certainly not going to reward it with laughter. As far as "clearly displaying my displeasure," I think my not laughing will be pretty clear.
But I wouldn't yell or anything, unless the joke was absolutely beyond the pale.
I always just pretend I don't get it. I can't imagine being displeased at a joke that has fallen flat, unless it was offensive.
A delightfully dishy novel about the all-time most impossible boss in the history of impossible bosses. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
