If you can see it probably, if you can't see it.......maybe. First make sure the power is of to the disposal, if it's a newer home you should be able to unplug the disposal under the sink. If it's hard wireed you'll need to find the breaker in your service panel.

Once the power is off, try turning the impeller both directions while pulling on the chain if you can see it. The motor turns one direction and the chain is most likely stuck in the grinder if you can turn the motor backwards you should be able to pull the chain out. If you can't see the chain you'll need to turn the motor back then turn the power back on and hopefull break up the chain and wash it down the drain, Assumeing it's a fine chain.

If that doesn't work you'll need a professional.

Look in your owners manual. You should be able to access the area where the blades are to remove whatever is stuck. You also should have a sort of key/wrench that came with the disposal and should free up the blades so you can remove the offending partical.

You can fix your disposal First make sure that there is no power to the disposal. Unplug it if you can; otherwise turn off the breaker. You can manually move the grinding mechanism in attempt to free the metal.

Usually you can do this from the bottom of the disposal. For instance, my disposal has a place to insert an Allen wrench in the bottom to turn the mechanism. If the problem is more severe and this does not work, replacing a disposal can be easy.

If you buy an identical unit it can be as simple as disconnecting the old one and putting a new one in its place. The total cost should be around $50. Before attempting this, take a look at the plumbing and electrical connection and decide if you are comfortable with the work required..

Probably. First, unplug the disposal (the plug is in the cupboard below the sink), so you don't accidentally grind your hand into hamburger! Then, using your hand, reach in and try to work the spinning wheel (which has tabs on it) back and forth with your hand--hopefully freeing the little metal piece in the process (which is probably wedged under the wheel) in order to remove it.

If that doesn't work, use a large screwdriver or tire iron or something similar to pry the wheel around by levering it against one one of the tabs (perhaps aiding it with a hammer) until you can get the little piece of metal loose enough to remove. Don't pry too hard, though, or you could break-off the tab! If these methods don't work, you could always disassemble and reassemble your disposal, but if you're not particularly mechanically adept, your last resort is calling a plumber or installing a new disposal!
