This is an excellent and simple check list but I'll add a few of my own comments below I've been writing interviews with celebs for magazines for years and I've been told that I make people very comfortable and readers say they really feel like they're there when they read my piece. A couple of things I suggest:1. Do your homework.

I can't tell you how many group interviews I've been on and people ask the dumbest question that could have been looked up online (What is the name of your last movie? What character did you play? ) Oh please.2.

Have a few standard off beat questions that no one asks. I have this great list given to me by Star Trek magazine, odd things like How long is a piece of string and what's in your pocket right now? These can be very revealing and they're also non-confrontational and fun so the subject relaxes.

Entertainment Weekly does a similar thing where they ask things like Pick a Charlie's Angel.3. Have questions but don't be afraid to go with the flow. If the subject leads you down a new path GO with it.

I keep my questions on a different page than my notes so if I get off track it's an easy flip back to see where I need to go next. So that's my few tips and do check out that website. Good luck Sources: darkwing.uoregon.edu/~sponder/j641/Inter... .

Research, research, research research, research, research. The more you prepare for the interview, the more you'll get out of it. If you ask simple questions that can be easily googled, then you are wasting his/her time and your own time.

People naturally like to talk about stuff he's interested in, so do your research about the person throughly, find out about what deeply he cares and interested about, then your interview will be much more fullfilling. Another things is instead of thinking it's a interview with pre-meditated questions, you can think you are just having a conversation with good old friend, let him to express himself freely without any inhibition, unless you're pressed in a time slot. My brother-in-law writes for a paper and interviews a lot** I'm not an expert, but since I hang around my brother in law, I hand with many interviewer-types. So this is ALL subjective. Here's what I think helps my bro-in-law be a great interviewer.

* He is genuinely interested in people and it comes across. *He makes good and consistent eye-contact. *In body-language I've notice that he imperceptively leans forward--he seems eager for their next word.

*He has some questions written out on a notepad, but he's not married to it; he is very adaptable. *In short sentences, he will say something that relates to what his interviewee is saying. *He wears a "non-judgmental" zone around him.

*He is open and encouraging. But it's the 1st one that is the best...he is genuinely interested in people. For a while he felt 'burnt out' on personal interest stories and he switched to reporting on racing--it was more factual.

He needed the break and he was honest about it. Now he's back to personal interest! And he's so good at it.

Hope that helps ;-) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
