Finish passing the legislation that removes the GOP-granted "rewards" for corporations that move their operations to Third-World nations (this is pending in the Senate and has been blocked by Mitch McConnell's filibuster)---the bill has already passed in the House. As part of this legislation, these "rewards" (tax breaks, etc.) have been shifted to the corporations that MOVE BACK onto American soil. This legislation will REVERSE the whole "outsourcing" to "expand profit margins" so favored by the Republicans every time they get into power.
The first priority above is conducive to getting our GOP-outsourced MANUFACTURING BASE brought back to life so that high-paying JOBS begin bringing down our unemployment level from its national average of around 9.6% to more like 5% or less. Continue paying down the DEFICIT by going after the Bush/Bernanke/Paulson bailout-banks for repayment with interest. The limits Democrats placed on the banking executives salaries ($500,000 a year) netted us more than $181 BILLION last year from 14 of the 419 banks, all dollars used to REDUCE our deficit by 8% (Reuters and Washington Post, June articles)---and all done without any Republican support in either the House or Senate.
Maybe if the Republicans LOSE some seats, they won't continue to be so arrogant and will HELP this time. Let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1.5% EXPIRE on schedule. Their rates will simply revert back to the 39% that was in place during the very PROSPEROUS Clinton presidency, and that returned revenue (i.e.
, nearly $700 BILLION) will go a long way to getting our GOP-caused DEFICIT under control, which will strengthen us as a nation for years to come. These are the three that should be achieved by January 2010 or earlier. Repealing the Supreme Court ruling that corporations are "persons" is another top priority so that foreign interests cannot influence our elections.
They would be required to work with the other party, because the Republicans will win enough to balance out the house and senate. So they cannot pass anything without it being a joint effort. They will begin to pull to the center, and will produce moderate legislation.
It cannot be too liberal, the Republicans will put a brake upon it. It cannot be too conservative, the Democrats will put the brakes upon it. So I would think they would start addressing the concerns of the American people.... 1.
Jobs 2. Economy 3. Deficit As you may notice, all three are parts of the economy.
That is the most important thing to the people right now.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
