Are there any health risks involved with microwaving food?

Hans Hertel, a Swiss food scinetist is a well known for a small but carefully controlled study on Microwave ovens. He works with Bernard H. Blanc of the University Institute for Biochemistry and the results were published in 1992 that are certainly fascinating.

Hans Hertel however, was fired for questioning food processing methods. The study comprises of 8 participants are strict macrobiotic eater from the Macrobiotic Institute at Kientel, Switzerland. In intervals from two to five days, the volunteers in the study ate one of the eight foods listed below and blood samples were taken on an empty stomach before each meals.

Blood samples were then taken on an empty stomach at intervals before eating. Blood tests after eating microwaved food showed marked changes in the following: *Hemoglobin values decreased *Lymphocytes decreased *HDL decreased *Ratio of good to bad cholesterol was affected negatively. The above results got worse in the second month of the study.

According to Hertel, there is an extensive scientific literature about that hazardous effects of direct microwave radiation on living systems. Little effort has been made to replace this detrimental technique of microwaves. There was no definite studies yet that links cancer to microwave oven, but the findings in Hertel's research is enough to warrant more research and it is clear enough that there are health risks involved when microwaving food.

Microwave Ovens are great for what they do but there are some risks and dangers associated with their use. We all should know the basic dangers. Do not use metals including aluminum foil in a microwave at all.

This also includes coffee mugs with metal leaf trim. Tightly sealed containers can explode. If the outside oven of the oven is damaged or the door seal broken do not use the oven.

There is some evidence to show that microwaves can affect human tissue causing a decrease in hemoglobin values and a decrease in HDL Cholesterol (the good kind). If the oven is damaged in can leak microwaves and exposure could impact your health. There is strong evidence showing that carcinogenic toxins are leached from the plastic containers or plastic wrap used to microwave foods.

When defrosting or reheating foods in a microwave always use glass containers. Never heat baby bottles in a microwave for this reason. This doesn’t mean you should be petrified to use your microwave and it is a great time saver for defrosting frozen food, making nachos and reheating coffee.

If you need to cover a glass dish while reheating, use paper towel to cover the dish.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
