Are there ways to claim residency in Wisconsin for in-state tuition at UW-Madison if I am an out of state student?

I'm from Illinois, and I'm planning to go to UW. I want to be able to claim residency in Wisconsin by my junior or senior year by possibly getting an apartment there. I hear that it is VERY difficult to do this, and I'm not sure whether this is the place to post this question because it is for an esoteric group of people, namely OOS students in UW right now.

I'm also trying to claim residency because UW's med school has a quota system that forces the med school to accept around 90% WI residents. In my belief, what I want to do is NOT cheating the system because I'll pay my taxes probably starting my freshman year when I find a job there...and that's pretty much why in-state kids have such cheaper tuition compared to out-of-state kids. Residency From what I just read today about the same situation for Michigan State University here where I live, to establish in-state residency you must NOT be in school for one year, remain a resident of the state, then re-enroll as a resident. Otherwise, even if you buy a house in-state it doesn't count as being a valid in-state student. This, I read, is pretty typical for most US universities, and it makes a lot of sense to me.

A student freshly moved into the state hasn't paid any taxes to help support the university, as the rest of the students/their families have, which helps lower their own tuition. I would say that you should probably check to be sure with the university admissions department, though, rather than here, as they can tell you the exact policy and what you need to do to establish residency with them. *Poppet*'s Recommendations The Best Way to Save for College 2007: A Complete Guide to 529 Plans (Best Way to Save for College) Amazon List Price: $22.95 Used from: $16.00 Average Customer Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (based on 3 reviews) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
