Are you embarrassed by your earliest answers to Askville questions or did you "get it" right away? How did you?

I’m not sure that I have it figured out yet. I think that maybe people just feel sorry for me and give me good ratings. When I first arrived here it did take me a little while to get in the swing of things and I do have a few answers that I would like to bury in a big deep hole somewhere. It probably took me a couple of months to really get the hang of it and six months to get as comfortable with the whole process as I am now.

Shortly after my arrival I had one of the older members jump on me about a question and I almost left because of it so I try to never act that way toward new people myself. I think that the thing that gave me the most early problems was learning to read the entire question and to do so carefully rather than reading the first part of the question and jumping to conclusions about what the questioner was really asking. I made several big boo boos doing that.

Are you kidding! About every other one. Nope, Oldtechno is batting about 50% here.

I guess that means I shouldn’t answer half of the questions I do. On the other hand, everytime I see something mind-catching, I just have to get in there and give out my 2 cents worth. Still, I do know what you talking about.

In the beginning I gave only the dry facts, later on I added my own opinion. Whether I win the gold or not, at least it’s funner this way.It probably took me about a month to catch on to how I should do it. BYE!

Yes, some of them For some reason some of my early answers hit the mark right away but when I look back there were some goofy ones that I would answer differently now. I am especially appalled by my first attempts at adding links, widgets etc. But even some of those wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't a certain askville pro way of doing it. I'm afraid I've succumbed to peer pressure and changed my ways but I still try to maintain my own way of saying or doing things to some extent.

I have... four answers, all very early, that weren't up to par. One was just dumb on my part--I should have used a discussion board slot, not an answer, and it's my one and only awful. I've got three weak answers, all too old to appeal, from my first days.

But I'm a professional writer, have taught english composition, and have a background in library science. This site is a natural for me, and I love it! I picked up VERY quickly what I needed to do to get solid ratings, and just wish I could spend more time on here now.My new job takes me away from it for over 10 hours a day.

I started to get best answers only a few days after I started answering questions. Granted they were mostly opinion questions, but in general, by cherry-picking the questions that play to my strengths, I've done pretty well here. No...maybe I should be no I was never embarrassed....maybe I should be......i fire my answer straight from my head...if the answer is something that can simply be looked up on the internet...i still wing it...why should I do the research for another?.......so mostly I just answer from personal knowledge, and emotion....about the most research I ever did on a question, was to run down stairs and get the jar of onion jelly for a friend, .....which doesn,t bother me so much, the research part I mean, I love to be proven wrong, its a good way to learn .
