Yes. Happened to me last week... Someone asked a software programming question that concerned 'triggers that failed' and the 'execution' of commands. Something like 'what happens if a trigger fails during execution'.

I waxed very eloquently about how a blank bullet was given to one member of a firing squad so everyone could have an excuse to think that they hadn't killed anyone and went on at lengths to talk about related aspects of firing squads and executions. Of course, I hadn't read the topic list. When the asker informed me in the discussion area that he was trying to resolve a software programming issue, I was (virtually) red-faced.

Not really. I am now too old to be embarrassed. But it was not the first time -- and of course, it will not be the last time.

I am doing a better job of reading the topics now.

It happens to me just about every time that PamPerdue and I Answer the same Q. Her Answers are almost always ..... sooooo much better. It also happened to me once when I somehow misread "ant-like" as "anti-like".

I know, it seems impossible, but it did happen, and it was very embarrassing.

Someone asked a question about a song lyric. I recognized the song! Except for one teeny tiny detail … the lyric to the song I knew was one word off from the one the asker was asking about.

So I thought I’d be helpful and answer “In case this what you really meant, here’s the song you’re looking for. ” Well, turns out he meant what he wrote, and the other four answerers gave him exactly what he was looking for. I did appeal because the question asked for additional information and ideas and I didn’t think I deserved to lose gold for my attempt.

Actually, I didn’t mind the lost gold. I just hate having answers in the negative buckets! Luckily, on appeal it went up enough to get it out of that bucket.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
