Last year we did the turkey and it was decided that we should have that honor each year. Thankfully one of the family ladies took oity on me better hald and relieved he of that burden. She will do chunk fruit salad complete with pecans and sweet coconut.
Sweet potato casserole with caramelized pecan crust. Possibly a cooked Hershey's fudge icing, (taste like fudge but acts like icing). Finally, fresh whole cranberry relish.
I am under strict orders not to enter discussions with family neo-consor bible thumpers. I will obey orders in the interest of family pseudo-civility. I figure one or two days a year is a small sacrifice in the interest if supporting ignorance.
I won't like it but I will do my best to remember to...do it.
Sounds like a very sweet Thanksgiving dinner, skep! Now, behave yourself! Poppet!12 months ago .
I love the old traditional Thanksgiving foods. I've been cooking the same foods for 40 years and the only thing I ever changed in all those years was to switch from the canned version of the green bean casserole to a fresh one made from scratch one (it's even better). I also stopped putting marhmellows on the yams a long long time ago, too sweet for me.
This year I'm going to try a new dessert. I/ve never been a big fan of pumpkin or pecan pie, so this year I'm going to try making a fresh pear tart with caramel sauce.
That makes me think of my grandma and her wonderful Thanksgiving dinners....That tart sounds yummy! Poppet! 12 months ago .
I use to think that they did, but now I like them savory instead of sweet.
I have made the same Thanksgiving Dinner for 44 years. The couple of times I made slight changes family members got annoyed with me. About the only change I can get away with is change the type of wine I purchase.

Roasting goose, possibly duck, also. I'm taking a clue from "The Tale of Jemimah Puddleduck" and saving an onion for the purpose.
I've never had it. Or duck! I have had pheasant, however.
Enjoy your dinner! Poppet!12 months ago .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
