Pretty much the same. I have lived in the same neighborhood for 36 years and it has changed in that time. When I moved here it was still considered a small town but now it has grown.
There is more traffic, more people and much more of a cross section of races. White, Black, Asian, people from Pakistan and people from Israel. My neighborhood is a community of one family houses. No apartments, just homeowners.
Everyone takes good care of their property and there is very little crime. I mean practically nothing. My particular block has stayed the same for years and years. Most on my block are original owners who have lived on this block for years and raised our kids here.
Now our grandchildren come back to visit. There is very little turn over on my block. The couple of new families that have bought on my street all work and are gone most of the day.
My block has always been the kind of block where we all smile and say but we do not really socialize. We all keep to ourselves but in an emergency or if one of us are away on vacation we look after each others houses and property. Basically it is nice since there are no cliques and no bickering between neighbors.
The younger people on my block watch out for the older people. For example my next door neighbor is in her 80's and I take her garbage pails out for her and bring them back to her side yard on collection day. Another neighbor is away a lot and I pick up her Pennysaver so it does not look like she is away.
These are the kind of things we do for each other without being told to do. Property taxes are out of sight, but that is a whole other story. :) .
Out of town works for me I now live in an area where people are very nice. I'm "out of town" in the mountains. I don't lock my door when I go to church.

We are getting a lot of people here that are new it is a bit strange for such a small town With the new people has come more drugs, more crime and a lot more news and not all of it good. I guess it is a sign of the times. Gone are the good old days when you neighbor had the key to your house of shoot you did not even have to lock your doors they just walked in.No we stay pretty quiet now unless we know you too many bad things have happened lately we are once bitten twice shy here.
1 In my community, there are more people than there used to be, but you still see lots of folks you know around town. As far as the "neighborhood," I'm still pretty secure, because the kinds of folks that make neighborhoods "bad" have no interest in living where I live. I'm closer to the Hatfields and McCoys than to the Crips and Bloods.
