If you're overweight it doesn't matter, sure it'll be harsh but afterwards you'll be happy you did it (Some people lost so much weight in my band which is a drastic change) and sometimes it can be fun during camp, and it's not like you tried out to be in Marching Band, some guys who were overweight in my band, when they fell behind some of their officers went back there to try and encourage them to continue running so I don't think you have to worry about that either as long as you put in effort. And yes rehearsals are long so it's all about time management, I don't believe your band lets you skip practice unless it's an emergency, that sounds like a lot but if you're overdoing it you can just do it another year if you're a freshman and it's bad to stress yourself. I suggest you try doing all of them and if you don't think you can manage it then you should quit but Marching Band is a really good experience.
And don't worry, in Marching band generally people play loud and i'm sure the upperclassmen can take over if you don't know how to play that well but I think you'd learn fast learning from people who have experience in it, my section was patient with me when I couldn't hold up the baritone because I was super skinny for a girl and I could barely play loud but they didn't mind. Just my advice, give It a try and quit if you're stressed out but other wise Marching band is a really good experience and who knows, you can meet really good friends like I have.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
