I have age-related hearing loss and have difficulty distinguishing dialog in television movies and other programming that have competing background noise. I am often forced to turn on CC. OTOH, news programs, talk shows and the like are no problem.
I'm looking for a simple system. Smaller and fewer speakers is better. Something like the Bose Wave Radio, BUT WITH TONE CONTROLS, and hopefully less expensive.
I've looked at Polk Audio's I-Sonic, but am really just scratching my head about what might be a good choice. Wisdom or experience out there? Asked by mgrmgr 61 months ago Similar questions: add on audio TV age related hearing loss Entertainment > Television.

Route sound through stereo or home theatre If you have a TV with audio output, which most now do, you can hook the stereo leads (the red and white RCA plugs ) to your stereo - (New digital TVs can have optical or digital output too! ) - or to your home theatre - what you want to do is use a graphical equalizer, usually built into most stereos or home theatres, to reduce the low and high tones TV uses for sound effects and music, and strengthen the mid ranges that voices use. You might consider getting wireless headphones for two reasons - it makes the voices very clear and it lets you set your own volume level and other people can listen through the speakers.
Sennheiser makes the best wireless headphones, I find. Sources: My Opinion .
1 newbie300582, regarding your answer "route sound through stereo or home theatre":Good thoughts. The television does have audio outputs as you suggested, but I'm still in the dilemma of what stereo or home theater system to get. Do you have system suggestions that apply to my particular problem?
Thanks for the ideas about headphones; while I don't particularly like wearing them, they might indeed provide a useful solution.
