British Petroleum (BP) said they are attempting to close the leaking oil rig with a valve. How does that work technically?

The WSJ source has a nice graphic on acoustic blowout preventers. Apparently acoustic shutoff valves are not required in the US so BP wasn't using one. The acoustic shutoff is like a wireless remote control except uses acoustics (sound waves) to activate the valve since all the cables were destroyed (see graphic).

There are several leaks and the second source speaks to some of the remedies being tried. Apparently two relief wells are being drilled at $100 million each but will take a couple of months.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
