Can a US citizen still receive Social Security benefits while living in another country?

If you live in another country, you may still receive your Social Security check for the duration of your eligibility; however, there are some countries where US Government checks or deposits are prohibited or restricted. If you live in one of these countries, your benefits will stop until you relocate to an unrestricted country, at which time you will also receive any back payments missed You cannot receive payments at all while living in Cuba or North Korea You may be able to get an exception through the US Embassy under certain circumstances if you live in Cambodia Vietnam or areas that were in the former Soviet Union (other than Armenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia) The SSA cannot send checks to a designated proxy.
