Can I connect the HDTV cable setup box to my HP m8120n PC? It got a TV tuner?

1 EddieNygma, regarding your answer "You can connect it but you won't be getting an HD picture":Thanks a lot .. I was little aware of these. Currently I am using coaxial cable from the setup box and connected to the TV tuner in PC and able to see all the channels . But I am upgrading my setup box to HD setup box .

The monitor I have is HP w2207 which is cable of displaying HD content . SOme where I read that for the HD signals, you need to use either component cables or HDMI cables for a good quality .. These inputs are missing in my computer. Can I use the same coaxial cable to view HD channels in my PC?

If you could help me with this , it would be great . Thanks .

2 Again it depends on whether your tuner can handle QAM. If so, using the coax and skipping the box altogether will give you an HD signal on your computer. But if you're hooking the box to the computer using coax will give you the worst option.

The quality of common outputs from worst to best is coax, RCA cables, S-Video cables, component cables, and DVI/HDMI cables (DVI only delivers video but it's pure digital just like HDMI which also carries sound). If your tuner card doesn't have component or DVI/HDMI inputs, I'm willing to bet it does have S-Video, which would be a better choice than coax. You will not be getting a true HD signal on your computer, but it will still look good.

If your tuner card has a coax input and you know it can decode HD signals directly, then try hooking the coax cable directly to the tuner and see if you get any HD channels. My guess is that this won't work for you but it's worth trying. If it doesn't work, either upgrade to a newer tuner card (one with a DVI input would be great) or settle for the good picture you'll get from S-Video.

I hope that helps! .

You can connect it but you won't be getting an HD picture I think what you're asking is that you want to connect the cable box to the computer so you can watch or record shows on the PC. The answer is yes, you can connect it to the PC's tuner card via the video input jacks, which I think are only composite (RCA) inputs on that computer. What you'll end up with is an analog connection and the maximum resolution you will achieve is 480i.So it won't be a high definition signal.

It would still look good, though. If you were to install a new tuner card in you PC that can handle QAM, then you could theoretically connect the cable directly to the PC and bypass the cable box entirely. In this way you would be able to receive and record a full HD signal on your computer. However, all the cable channels aren't necessarily going to be unencrypted, so this solution may only work on a few channels.

Yes, with recording software and firewire cable to the PC or coax/composite cable to the tuner card. If your cable provider gave you a cable box with a firewire connection, you can view and record unencrypted digital HD content on the PC using a firewire cable from the cable box to the PC. To view analog channels or encrypted content you will need to use the tv out of the cable box as the input to your tv tuner card.

The tv tuner card will have at least one analog input to connect to the tv out of the cable box, either coaxial or composite/RCA cables. All cable providers in the US are required to provide a box that has a firewire output if you request one. This is a digital connection used for transferring data, and will allow you to view and record unencrypted cable content on the PC.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
