Can I sell a car even if the title is in some one elses name but signed over to me?

I bought the car and havent driven it yet. Its been sitting in my driveway. I decided I want to sell the car.

I have the title and it has been signed over to me, but is still is the previous owners name. Can I still sell it or do I have to register the car and get a title in my name just to turn around and sell it? I'm so confused.... Hmmmm. "Signing it over" means nothing by itself. You have to take the title to the DMV to have the change of ownership registered.

And you probably have to pay a sales tax. The previous owner should be furious, because if somebody took your car and ran over a pack of nuns with it, he would be liable.
