Can I take supplements vitamin D, folic acid, biotin, lutein, and fish oil capsules at same time as prescription meds?

My prescription meds are Pentasa (mesalamine) (1 gram, 4 times daily) and mercaptopurine (100mg daily). Can taking supplements at the same time interfere with their absorption? I want to return to daily supplements such as lutein, B-12, biotin, folic acid, and fish oil capsules.

Prescription painkillers cause most King County drug deaths Abuse of prescription drugs is the leading cause of drug-related deaths in King County, a new report has found. In 2008, prescription opiates caused 153 of 256 drug-related deaths in King County. That's more than double the number of deaths from any other drug, according to a group lead by Caleb Banta-Green, a research scientist at the University of Washington's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute.

Banta-Green said in an interview that deaths from prescription drugs have soared in the past 12 years. They were included as a factor in 21 of 178 drug-related deaths in 1997. (The drug deaths are cases in which drugs were listed as a factor in deaths.

They don't include accidents, such as drunken driver killed in a crash. )Methadone, which is frequently prescribed for pain, is the prescription drug most often mentioned. Also frequently mentioned are hydrocodone, an ingredient in Vicodin, and oxycodone, which includes OxyContin.

Methadone is a slow-acting drug, and its pain-relieving properties end before the drug leaves the body, Banta-Green said. So a user may take more believing that the drug has worn off when it hasn't. The abuse of prescription drugs moves throughout age groups.

People 50 0r older accounted for 39 percent of deaths involving prescription opiates. In most of the deaths involving prescription drugs, those who died were also taking other drugs, Banta-Green said. At the same time, young people are also abusing the prescription drugs.

The largest increases are for people 18 to 25 years old and 40 and older. * Deaths from heroin declined slightly. But only cocaine abusers sought treatment more often than heroin users.
