Let's say that I have a garage door opener with no remotes. I know they sell universal remotes that can be programmed to my opener, but can any random remote be programmed to any opener? I understand it may require opening up the remote and possibly toggling a few switches.
Can this be done? Asked by dwdrums 38 months ago Similar questions: garage door openers programed remote remotes classified universal Home > Home Improvement.

Old systems YES, newer ones NO the older door openers had 4, 8, or 12 nixie switches (tiny little switches that had an up/down position). That you would set to a random pattern. As long as your opener remote matched the switch settings on the opener, it would work.No problem.
And there are still a lot of those openers out in use in peoples' garages. However, this also made garage doors easy to fake and break into, because the sequence was not all that hard to figure out if you were patient enough. So the world went digital. Newer openers have remotes that send out a multi-digit digital code to the opener.
If the opener recognizes that code as correct, the door opens. There several billion randon codes to work from, and the code changes with each use of the garage door opener. You have to synch up your opener and your remote the very first time, and from then on the digital codes are the only way to open the door.
This is almost impossible to fake, because the numbers are randomly generated. Therefore ... you need to take a close look at the opener. If there is a small bank of switches, then you can buy any old remote and set it.
If it doesmn't have switches, it's digital, and you will need to buy a compatible remote that works with the brand of opener you have..
1 That has been my experience, yes. For instance, my office wanted to charge me $50.00 for a remote. They said it was a deposit for the actual unit.So I gave them an old one I had lying around and we were able to successfully reprogram it (for free).
Took about 10 minutes, and we did have to open it up and slide the plastic indicators around, according to a code.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
