Top panel of garage door cracked - is it possible to just buy a replacement panel, rather than a whole new garage door?

The top panel of my door is cracked. It's right where the arm is connected to the garage door opener - so the whole middle part sags down as the door is being closed. If I don't hold that section up by hand when closing the door, it will bend even more and the door will not close completely.

Basically, I can't just hit the door opener and leave it alone - I have to give it some help to close all of the way. I haven't seen anywhere where I can buy just one replacement panel, and am wondering if anyone's run into this before. Depends I am sure that it depends on the door, but I have seen Overhead Door replace one panel in a door that was used in an industrial setting.

We have been able to do so. All the garage door places around where we live will sell replacement panels. One suggestion; you may want to ask how much to have it installed.My uncle was changing a panel in one of the garage doors at the car dealership he worked for (he was the head automechanic) and that big heavy spring used when you have an automatic garage door opener can be really dangerous.

It snapped loose and threw my uncle across the garage (the work area of the dealership, where the mechanics work on your car) and not only did it knock him out, but he had concusion plus a broken hip. They had to do surgery and do a total hip replacement from how bad the damage was. He never did walk right afterwards.

Had a severe limp all the rest of his life. And was in pain the rest of his life.(30+ years after the accident). Those springs are dangerous.

When we needed a panel replaced in our garage door two years ago (a friend accidently hit the door), my husband was going to replace it (he is not a novice at home repairs, nor building homes), but the spring was so strong, he decided to let the professional do it. Good thing, as the pro had it break on him and it cut his arm. The garage door company sent someone else out the nest day to finish the job.

That guy said they all hate having to deal with those springs..
