If you truly believe he is a danger to himself ask your local police department if they will transport to a hospital when the time comes for you to make that call. You may also have a County Crisis Line, for mental health crises. If he is crying for hours in his room, and you call them, they will evaluate him at home, and make the decision for you as to whether or not he should be hospitalized.
That's what I did for my bipolar daughter when she went off her meds and refused therapy or hospitalization. She had a lot of rage and was scary! The Crisis Worker came out - she was hospitalized!
