Not being fully functional can depress someone more yet. If you go on disability you do not collect unemployment checks because of the premise that you are too sick to work or look for a job. You can flip flop between them like it was in my case: I had foot surgery and was on a temporary disability and when I was near returning to work the company closed and when disability ended I started collecting unemployment because I was willing and able to look for another job.
