Religion is a controversial subject always has been always will be.
To me it is the most controversial subject out there. Since no real proof exists about whether god is real an d since most religions are so far from their original meaning it has become a controversy in itself.
Obviously -- all the religious wackos can post reams of bible quotes here in the Q&A. That is not deemed controversial. Yet I published a few hours ago a question asking what they hope to accomplish with their "appeals to authority" arguments, and stating that they have no valid arguments, someone (or more) squeals like a stuck pig to management, and my question gets deleted.
It can be. But it also can be debated without passionate red herrings or nasty cheap-shots, if people are more sensitive about the other side of the aisle. It helps when you're open-minded.
I like to think my being an atheist for three years allows me to approach the subject with both sides of my brain. So it goes... (as Kurt Vonnegut would say).
It's difficult but it can be done. But religion is based on blind faith and not scientific fact. So when Christians are attacked for not having absolute proof of God, it doesn't matter because they believe in eternal life no matter what.
When I get into discussions about religion, I automatically assume that I will not convince agnostics nor will they convice me. In this way I can stay calm. It's the same with liberals.
Although I did get upset when a liberal tried to justify armed drug cartels taking over our national parks.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
