Can the IRS take all of a Social Security check for back taxes owed?

They are suppose to leave you at the poverty level which is currently around $450 p/mth. But they have taken peoples whole check and can do it legally. I have seen it done and have seen people fight it with a Lawyer and they still lost their whole check. So it depends on the Agent you get and what kind of mood they're in.

It's the Gov they do what they want.

Check out this link. askmehelpdesk.com/taxes/social-security-... It seems that your grandfather may have been cheated by the IRS. Although it is a Federal agency, it operates above the law in unscrupulous ways to take from the poor to keep them poor.

They leave the rich alone in most cases because the rich can afford lawyers and it will cost the government more money to fight them than it costs to force a poor person to pay up. The IRS is allowed to take money for Federal taxes but they are not supposed to do it if the money is the sole source of income, and if it will put undue financial stress on the individual, as in your grandfather's case. Unfortunately the IRS is not full of caring and feeling people.

They are weeded out of the world's collectors to make the average person who is barely surviving believe that taxes are a legal part of our existence in the United States. I feel so badly for your grandfather. It is infuriating to see our elderly veterans being treated so deplorably by the very country they signed on the dotted line to protect. As long as the Federal government continues to add to our deficit, as long as they continue to vote in spending bills, they will need tax dollars to fund those.

Social Security is already broke, having been ripped off by the very entity that forced it into being. They are constantly taking money from that program, along with Medicare, to fund their special interest projects, or as under the cover, or behind closed door bribes to push through more spending. Until the IRS is put in check by the Supreme Court and by Congress, they will continue to rob from the poor so they don't have to worry about the rich.

Thanks to your grandfather, and other veterans, we have a great country. But thanks to the freedoms we are afforded as a country, there are thieves under each rock, and around each corner, and sitting in a cushy office under an American flag. askmehelpdesk.com/taxes/social-security-....

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
