Here is a thought. Find a graduate/alumnus who is working in finance in an investment bank, hedge fund, private equity fund, investment management company, or maybe in the treasury of a large corporation like Disney or something in LA. You would probably have a popular half day in a conference room in that company having the alum talk about what that career is like.

With luck, (s)he can convince a partner-level executive and the recruiting department to spend a little time with your 10 students as well. Saturday won't be as popular as during the week. But, most of these companies will have some people in the office on a Saturday.

Not sure if they do any specific 'field trip' plans but it seems like it would be a good idea. I mean Saturday is probably better for them on something like this anyway because they won't be as busy as they are Mon-Fri. They certainly would be open as well.

From their website:Houlihan Lokey, an international investment bank, provides a wide range of services, including mergers and acquisitions, financing, financial opinions and advisory services, and financial restructuring. In 2006, Houlihan Lokey ranked as the No.1 M&A advisor for U.S. transactions under $1 billion, according to Thomson Financial. The firm is the No.

1 M&A fairness opinion advisor and has one of the largest worldwide financial restructuring practices of any investment bank. The reason I think it would be a great place for MBA types to visit is because of its broad range of services and clear respect in the industry amongst all of its sectors. Can be good for somebody going into the accounting end, the corporate end, the legal end, the i-banking end, or pretty much anything MBA-related really.

I would recommend giving their LA headquarters a call and seeing what you can set up. Worth a shot. Here is their contact info:800.788.5300Hope it works out and good luck.

I seriously doubt field trip is an appropriate activity for an MBA-level class, especially in Finance. Where would you go to observe equity risk premium or volatility? Having taught MBA finance for a number of years, I somehow managed to do it without a single field trip... You could sign your students up for an all-day Bloomberg class (they're free; Bloomberg used to hold them at the Biltmore downtown, but now, if memory serves, holds them in Beverly but those are usually taught in mid-week... Additionally, Bloomberg may or may not be relevant to the class you teach...

1 I wonder if you could get tickets to the set of the Apprentice :-) I'm sure there are many companies you could tour, but I think the Irvine Company in Irvine (just south of Disneyland) would be an awesome company to tour. They are real estate mogules and have literally built entire communities. Theirvinecompany.

ComThe Irvine Company is a 140-year-old, privately held real estate investment company best known for the balanced, sustainable communities it has planned and developed on The Irvine Ranch® in Orange County, California. The company also is known for its portfolio of high-quality, high-profile investment properties -- which include major office buildings, hotels, apartment communities, marinas and retail centers -- in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties and Silicon Valley. Guided by a comprehensive master plan it undertook in the early 1960s, the company continues to create communities that provide a full range of housing, thriving job centers, excellent schools, rich recreational opportunities and abundant parks, greenbelts and open spaces.

Today, The Irvine Ranch is considered one of the largest and most successful master-planned urban environments in the United States. Approximately 260,000 people live on The Irvine Ranch. About 237,000 people work there.

2 That sounds like a great one, however, I am restricted to Los Angeles County and preferably the city proper. Thanks anyway.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
